Pinarellu
Discover theseaside village
Only 4 km from Sainte Lucie de Porto-Vecchio, in Southern Corsica, the bay of Pinarellu is a paradise sheltering a seaside village and magnificent long white sand beaches lined with pine trees.
Pinarellu is one of the main coastal hamlets in the municipality of Zonza. Appreciated by boaters and walkers, the village is lively day and night during the summer season. You will find all the amenities for a stay by the sea (bars, restaurants, grocery store, etc.) but also a wide choice of sport activities (jet-ski, sailing, paddle, kayak, boat rental, sea cruise, etc.) or cultural (concerts, cinema, walks, historical sites, etc.).
From Pinarellu, you can explore the southern region of Corsica and discover the natural swimming pools of Cavo, Alta Rocca and the “aiguilles” of Bavella, Bonifacio and its limestone cliffs, the city of Porto-Vecchio, …
The genoese tower
Located on the island of Pinarellu, facing the village, the tower was completed in 1591 by the genoese at the request of the local population. It is one of the rare square-shaped towers in Southern Corsica. Attacked numerous times in the 17th and 18th centuries, the tower, today a Historical Monument, remained in service until 1738.
A Ruscana island
Another symbol of Pinarellu, the islet of Ruscana is located a little less than a kilometer away from the coast. Culminating at nearly 20 m above sea level, it’s home to a population of seabirds which make it a Natura 2000 classified site, access to which is prohibited. If its top is white, it’s because it’s covered in guano.
The chapels Saint Joseph and Sainte Barbe
At Pinarellu’s entrance, adjoining the marine cemetery, stands the Saint Joseph chapel, erected in the 18th century. During the summer, many traditional singing concerts are held there.
A little further on, at the edge of the pond, is the Sainte Barbe chapel, chapel of the hamlet of Poggioli, located further inland.
The pinewood
At the back of Pinarellu bay, over 1 500 m, there is a beautiful white sand beach named after the 10 ha pine forest which borders it all along. It is the largest and most popular of the Pinarellu beaches.
